Thank you for wanting to participate in this project!

Remember that you can't use a computer to create your giraffes!
And you have to make them yourself.

No store bought items or photographs from zoos/safaris will be accepted.
Anything else goes! And you can create as many giraffes as you want!
You can read more about these rules here if you want to.

You can send me your giraffes in several ways:

Upload

(please use this if you can)

Your giraffes won't appear on the website straight away.
I need to approve every giraffe to make sure they're not breaking the rules.

If you have another giraffe, please feel free to upload it now as well:

Woha! Two giraffes? Thank you! Do you have another one?!?

Unfortunately you can only upload three pictures at a time,
but once these are done, you can add three more!

E-mail is optional.
I'll email you a direct link to your giraffe when it's out on the site and when I've reached a million

E-mail

Please try to upload your giraffe before you email it to me.
Click the text right above that says 'Upload'. It's much easier for me and your giraffe will be online sooner! If the upload fails you can send your giraffe to onemilliongiraffes@gmail.com.

Please remember to write your name, age and location somewhere on your drawing or in your email!

Twitter

You can use @1000000giraffes to send a picture to me.
And please tweet about this project, so it spreads around to everyone!

Please remember to write your name, age and location somewhere on your drawing or in your tweet!

Facebook

You can upload your giraffes on my Facebook page and I'll take it from there.
But this is very backwards, you might as well just upload it here.
You should become a fan of the project on Facebook either way!

Please remember to write your name, age and location somewhere on your drawing or in your Facebookpost!

I reserve the right to use all artwork submitted to this project however I want.

blog from behind the giraffes
Couchsurfers from Ukraine
I love couchsurfing. It's a genious concept where you can invite people into your home (with no charge) and have them stay on your couch while they are visited your city. I've used it for many years and it's a great way to invite the world into your home, as well as getting free and awesome accommodation when you are travelling.

This summer I've had lot's of people staying at my house and when two sisters from Ukraine were here something cool happened: Victoria saw that I was working with some giraffe pictures on my computer and said that there was "a guy on the internet trying to collect one million giraffes because his friend said he couldn't". She even made a cookie giraffe a few months earlier and sent it! It was kinda hard to convince her that I was that guy, but when she saw my name on the "what is this?"-page she believed me.

The world certainly is small! :)

Rosanne: I don't think the world is that small. I think this project is that big! (written earlier today)
Ragnar: Cookie giraffe by Victoria? Must be this one. (Didn't find any cookies from Ukraine) (written earlier today)
One Million Giraffes: I'll get back to you with the direct link to it. It's uploaded as a group, not by Victoria... (written earlier today)

Susanne: As nice as this drawing is, I hope the artist has used watercolours ;o) (written yesterday)

One Million Giraffes: Hahahaha. You have a good point Jayelle! And I might take you up on that offer, Delphin! :) (written yesterday)

Giraffes from an art class for disabled people
Some days I feel that this whole giraffe madness is just silly and pointless, and then there are days where I feel really good about what I've done here. Today is one of those days and it's all thanks to Meenakshi from Arizona, USA. This email means the world to me:

"Here in Phoenix, we have an art gallery called Arizona Arts Collective that exhibits art done by people with disabilities (physical and behavioral). It is run by a wonderful lady, Midge White, whose daughter Jennifer has down syndrome and is an excellent artist. Midge has dedicated her life to working for people with disabilities. There are several classes held in the gallery.

I am an engineer, but in my free time I paint and teach kids and adults how to use art as a form of expression. Some of my students have disabilities like autism, down syndrome and some have had brain injuries. Whether they have disabilities or not, they all love love love to paint.

My students can not stop making giraffes since I told them about this project. You have helped bring smiles, happiness and motivation for them. They are always so excited and looking forward to making giraffes. One of the girls in the class wanted to tell you that she uses art to help her get away from the challenges of her daily life. Painting giraffes was very therapeutic for her. I'm sending you some pictures from our class, where you can see our model giraffes on the table.
"

Giraffe of the day #409
Today's giraffe of the day comes from Portugal and it's drawn by Magalhães. This is so simple that it's genius! I really, really love that it's a poster that's pinned to the wall.

Susanne: People are really creative... 100s of them, means 1000000 ideas... Great. (written 5 days ago)
Jayelle: Drawing the paper tilted and the taped corners gives it an interesting view of a simple giraffe! (written 5 days ago)
Lorna Stroup Nilsson: That's clever! It's interesting that you can make it really simple (just a few straight lines, for example) and a drawing is still easily to recognise as a giraffe. (written 3 days ago)
