I get a few emails every day saying that they would like to help me out financially to prevent ads to infiltrate the giraffes. Most people have suggested that I put up a PayPal donate button. And well. Now I have. To the right of this blogpost you will find a Donate box so if you want to, you can donate a few cents to the project. But there's no pressure at all. I'm sure I can get the money I need in other means, but I'll try it out since so many have suggested this...
Again: It's important for me to stress that I will not make any money on this. At all. The ads on this blog have generated 33 $ so far and that's about 40 % of the cost for the first month of my new servers. So I need to do something... Therefore I've opened up for donations.
And to make matters even worse: I've added another server to the giraffe park! So now there are five servers keeping this website going. I had to add another server because the traffic to the site is just to big...
So let's see what happens now. I will keep you updated on the financial situation. Here's a summary of what has happened so far:
Expences:
83 $ for four servers keeping the site going in July.
Income:
33 $ on the Google ads on this blog so far.
I promise to remove both the ads and the donate button when I've gotten more income than I have expences.

One Million Giraffes: Woha! It took two hours before the first donation was received! (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Nodders: Hi, I don't mind the ads actually, as far as there are only a few and in the blog page. One of the ads turned out to be a useful link for me, so hey they aren't all evil. I just wanted to ask, how do the ads generate money? Do you get money from people clicking on the links or from people purchasing things on the advertised web pages? (written on the 1st of January 2009)
One Million Giraffes: I get paid for every click and for every thousand views... (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Jayelle: No problem here with the ads, as soon as I saw a mention of them I started clicking around on the ads, even used one of the pictures to be a model for one of my hand drawn giraffes (tee-hee!). I hope my clicks helped some! (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Eg: What happens when the project is over, when you reach 1,000,000 giraffes? Will you keep the site open somehow? (written on the 1st of January 2009)
One Million Giraffes: @Eg: yes, I will keep the site open, but I will probably close the site for submission. But i'm not really sure yet. I need that million before I can start thinking about what I will do afterwards... (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Irisfromholland: Can I draw more than one giraffe on more than one peace of paper? For example, if I make five, will they count as five? Or should all five of them be on the same paper? (written on the 1st of January 2009)
One Million Giraffes: You can draw as many as you want in any form you want! I count the giraffes and register them as the number they are. I collect giraffes, not giraffe pictures! So go ahead and draw! :D (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Rachel: Wow!!!! You are my hero... (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Sequoia: I'm really glad you made this project. My friends and I spent a whole school period just drawing giraffes ^_^ (we're smart, no harm done) (written on the 1st of January 2009)
One Million Giraffes: Hahaha. That's great, Sequoia! (written on the 1st of January 2009)
Olpifromnorway: How much do you get for each click on the ads? (written on the 1st of January 2009)
One Million Giraffes: It depends. Google are really smart and can figure out if the same person clicks on the ads several times. In that case I don't get anything. If the click seems suspecious I get very little. It's not a lot of money at all. I think I make the most out of "viewings". I get a cent or two of each 1000th viewing... (written on the 1st of January 2009)

There are currently seven servers keeping this website going, so unfortunately I have to have these ads here so I won't bankrupt myself on this project. I've written more details about this issue here.
